Back-to-School Book Drive for Jefferson Youth Detention Center

Hey, Well Read Baddies!

We’re thrilled to announce a special initiative – our Back-to-School Book Drive benefiting the G. Ross Bell Youth Detention Center. This drive is all about giving back and helping the young minds at the Jefferson Youth Detention Center in Birmingham, AL, kick off the school year with a fresh start and a love for reading.

How You Can Help

We’ve created a registry on Bookshop.org filled with carefully selected books that we believe will inspire, educate, and entertain the youth at the center. By purchasing a book from our registry, you’re directly contributing to their educational journey and providing them with an opportunity to explore new worlds through reading.

Our Book List

Our curated list includes a variety of genres and topics to cater to different interests and reading levels. Here are a few highlights from our list:

  • "Letters to a Young Brother: Manifest Your Destiny" by Hill Harper – This inspirational guide offers practical advice and encouragement for young men, focusing on achieving dreams and overcoming obstacles.

  • "Percy Jackson and the Olympians 5 Book Paperback Boxed Set (W/Poster)" by Rick Riordan – An epic series filled with adventure, mythology, and relatable characters, perfect for capturing the imaginations of young readers.

  • "Dear Martin" by Nic Stone – A powerful novel that tackles social justice and racial issues, following the story of a young African American teen navigating through societal challenges.

  • "Blood at the Root" by Ladarrion Williams – A compelling narrative that delves into themes of history, identity, and justice, offering a thought-provoking read for young minds.

  • "Children of Blood and Bone" by Tomi Adeyemi – A thrilling fantasy novel that blends African mythology with an epic storyline, encouraging readers to explore themes of power, heritage, and resistance.

Why It Matters

Books have the power to transform lives. For the youth at the Jefferson Youth Detention Center, these books can be a source of hope, inspiration, and education.
